How long should an 800mg Ibuprofen last for pain?!

Question: I had a wisdom tooth pulled about 2 weeks ago. They wrote me a prescription for 800 mg Ibuprofen for pain. The tooth that was pulled was putting some major pressure on the rest of my teeth on that particular side, and for the most part since it's been pulled, they're fine. However, tonight they starting hurting a lot, and so I took one of the Ibuprofen. This was at about 530 pm. It is now 1030 and they are starting to hurt again.

Is it ok to take another one (this is all I've taken that really helps), or should I wait a little longer?

Thank you for any help.

4-6 hours
You should be ok to take another one
Read the pamphlet that came with your prescription
Ibuprofen can be irritating to your stomach so you might want to take it with some milk or pudding

As long as you coat your stomach with something you'll be fine.

Wait at least another hour if not longer.

4 hours. You're good to take another one.

Take another one

take it.

you can take it every 6-8 hours... or 3-4x a day

you should usually wait 6-8 hours between doses of NSAIDs(non-steroidal anti-inflamatory drug) but if you have pain then by all means pop another. ibuprofen, or motrin, is hard on the stomache so take it with food or milk. you can also alternate taking motrin and tylenol so you're not getting too much of either and you can take two pain medications and take them more frequently. if the pain just won't ease up, see your provider again and ask for something "stronger" like T-3 (tylenol with codeine) or some vicodin. hope you feel better!

it should be fine to take another one, I had a wisdom tooth pulled and I had the same problem. I was taking 800 mg of motrin every 4 hours.

if you were written a prescription it should say on the bottle.the usual dose is 800 mg every 6-8 hrs.but be careful people are getting intolerant to medications now days,so you can become sensitive to them.read all directions on the bottle,if your pain is worse than before you just might want to give your Dr.a follow up phone call.

It's mainly for inflammation but can work for pain. 800mg every six hours. 11:30 is the right time. Drink milk to protect your stomack lining. Now, for the pain. You can place an ice pack or a zip lock bag with ice on your sore side. Sleep elevated for tonight to keep the pain to a minimal. If it really hurts than you might have a condition called Dried Socket you must see your dentist right away. It's an infection that will spread. Take care.

EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT ASK YOUR DR OR PHARMACIST THEY CAN TELL YOU BETTER YOU MAY NOT NEED ANY AT ALL IT SHOULD SAY ON THE LABEL READ THE DIRECTIONS I WOULD EAT SOMETHING FIRST THAT WILL MAKE IT WORK FASTER I HOPE YOU FEEL BETTER GOOD LUCK

The generally prescribed dosage for 800 mg. Ibuprofen is 3 times per day. You will probably want to take it with food, or at least not on an empty stomach. I took it every 6 hours and had no problem but my doctor specifically prescribed it that way. If you are having pain where the tooth was pulled, you may have what is called a "dry socket" which is very painful and you would need to go back to your dentist because it may not get better without proper treatment. Hope this helps.

They like you to wait 6 hours, but you don't have to. Five hours is okay.

Be sure to protect your tummy by eating something with the pill, and if you're still hurting in the morning, call your oral surgeon.
