I'm thinking about getting a lip piercing...?!

Question: But my mom wants facts (I'm 15).
Shes worried about tooth decay from the metal (???), it pushing my teeth back, gum reccesion or something, the pain, and it having to be taken out in school or can something be done about that, i really need advice on this topic... I've been wanting it for over a year now and i could use some advice from people with personal experience or information on this topic, help would be appreciated :]

Lol, I've been arguing with my damn dentist about my tongue piercing for well over a year. He keeps saying that it'll break my teeth, rot my gums etc, I've had it almost 3 years - all my x-rays and check-ups are perfect. That is a tongue ring. A lip ring is even less risky. It won't push your teeth back, and some lip rings don't even have a ring or a ball on the other side.

If you do get one with a ring or ball on the other side, they rest gently against the teeth.. some don't even touch the teeth at all. They will not receed your gums - and, unless infected, it won't be in pain more than a few days after the piercing. Take good care of it, though.

As for school, that's your only problem. Some schools make you take it out, some don't give a damn. You can probably cover it up with a bandaid, but that might be uncomfortable depending on the position of your lip ring.

When I got mine, my mom was all worried like yours is. It's a mom thing, tell her not to worry too much about it - a lot of kids are piercing their lips/nose etc. now a days. It's trendy.. :-)

Tell her that you want to pierce the top and bottom lips and then only use one ring for both at the same time////she might enjoy the quiet!

My sis got her lip pierced and there is nothing wrong with her teeth.

as a ex-piercer and tattooist,if done right you will be fine, you can get a little gum recession if it is to low,,,,,,,as with any oral piercing there is always a chance of catching on a tooth and chipping a tooth, but this is more likely on a labrae,or a tongue piercing............just when you get it done,be sure to always clean, and use good mouthwash like listerine....good luck
