they dont really hurt while youre getting them on. though i got mine on 5 years ago, so i dont remember all that well. yes, afterwards tehy do hurt. but after a while you are used to it and its as if they arent even there. and i chewed gum. just be careful with what type you chew, dont chew a type thats like really sticky, but dont worry, you can still chew gum even though they say not to. and honestly, i dont thinkk you will be made fun of. theres people i know that have braces, people dont care about that stuff in highschool. and you are getting braces the day after my bday, incase you wnated to know. haha. but just think how afterwards you will have beautiful teeth :]

1. Yes at first they hurt, but then you get use to it. They might hurt on occasion when they are adjusted.
2. Technically you should not chew gum, but if you must then do the sugar free kinds because they are less sticky.
3. No you will not be made fun of. The majority of kids in high school either have them or have had them.

1. While they're putting them on, you won't feel a thing! However a few hours after, you will feel the after affects. Take pain relievers if it hurts to that point. But I don't think it will hurt that bad for you.

2. Well you should not because it could cause damage to the braces and possibly even make them fall off. See, the gum will stick everywhere on your wires and brackets and it will be hard to get the gum off.

3. Your friends might joke around a little bit when you get them. I didn't mind because mine did to me. But it'll stop. You shouldn't be made fun of to make it hurt your feelings.

The pain should go away in the first week.

However, when you first get them, I suggest you eat foods that you won't even think of chewing because it will feel horribly bad and painful to chew on something.

Things like apple sauce, yogurt, ice cream, pudding ect..

1. they hurt so bad when you first get them on. you will have to eat nothing but soft foods for about a week. when you also get them tightened every month they will hurt for about a day or two.
2. you will not even want to look at gum for a while. your teeth hurt so bad sometimes that you dont even want to eat. after you have had them on for a while you will be able to chew gum (even though you are not supposed to!) ;)
3. no one will make fun of you. im a senior and i wont be getting mine off until april. no one has said anything to me about having them.

make sure to get some silicone or wax from your orthodontist because the brackets will eventually rub the inside of your lip and make it raw. you will just have to put a thin layer of the stuff over your braces and you will be set. also, when you first get them put on and you go home, take something for pain. it wont start to hurt for a few hours but believe me, it will start to hurt! good luck with your braces though! =)

1. They will hurt when for the first day. I do not want to lie to you! I have already had to go through with braces, so I know what it is like. They will not hurt the next day though, I promise!!
2. You can chew gum! They tell you not to, but I chewed gum everyday and nothing ever happened.
3. No you will not be made fun off. I bet that lots of kids will have them also. P.S. they are not that noticable, so SMILE!

To be perfectly honest with you, I thought they hurt A LOT! But I got the top and bottoms ones on at different times. Getting the top ones on first wasn't so bad, but a few hours later I really felt it. That night, I was kind of half asleep, but my body was almost in a state of panic and I wanted to rip them off!!

The bottoms hurt a lot worse!!! My lips were being all ripped up so I had to put some wax on the braces, and I cried it hurt so much to put the wax on =( cause you have to push the wax onto the braces and my teeth were so sore!

The longer you wear them, the less painful they become. Is usually doesn't hurt a few days after getting them tightened (which is usually about every 6 weeks).

As for gum, I chew it sometimes, it's just really really annoying when it gets stuck to the braces and you have to spend forever trying to pick it out lol. It doesn't happen all the time, just make sure you have gum that's not really sticky.

I got my braces on almost a year after I graduated, but while in highschool I never witnessed anyone being made fun of because of them. Unless you're school is a bunch of jerks with bad teeth and have never had braces, you should be fine =)

-They hurt alot! But it goes away in a few dasy.
-You can chew sugarless gum, no matter what your orthadontist says.
-You will not be made fun of. More than 60% of highschoolers have braces!

I've had braces, a long time ago. I got them on when I was 13. (now 21) I thought I was going to be made fun of, but I NEVER was. I started to realize that a lot of people actually had them too. They do hurt, won't lie on that one. The pain is not too bad though, after a week or two you will be used to them. Then when you have to get them tightened, they will hurt a little again. The dentist will tell you not to chew gum, but you can. I used to do it, just DON'T chew the sticky kinds ( like bubble yum). Sugar free gums will be good. Also, make sure you stay on top of brushing your teeth because you don't want your teeth to have weird stains when you get them off, and avoid dark sodas, and coffee if you drink them. Overall, they aren't too bad, I'm so happy I had braces because people are always complimenting on my beautiful smile! Good luck!!!

At first, I have to tell you, they are really uncomfortable and even painful. You'll be covering your braces in the wax they give you because you'll have sores in your gums from the braces. But after a while you will get used to it and it will feel normal. You should chew gum but i did anyway (in moderation), and it all went fine. There are tons of pwople with braces in highschool, if they do, theyre immature idiots!

Don't worry too much, it'll be fine.

when you go for your appt. be sure to chew your last piece of
gum!!!!! This is a
big nono to the orthodontist who will treat you. it sticks to the brackets and bands that you will wear for several years, and will cause decay around the areas of the tooth that is not cleansible with a toothbrush or floss. Make you dentist happy and give up the gum for now your will be very thankful you did because cavities come quickly when wearing braces and after they are removed you will need to have a whole bunch of fillings to do. Play it safe and do well with brushing and flossing and listen to the instructions you are given. I have been adental asst for 22 yrs. TRUST ME ON THIS!!!!!!

this may be different for you because when i got spacers, they barely hurt for me..

BUT USUALLY...

1) no they dont hurt while they aer being put on ( i actually enjoyed it) and they may hurt like the day after you get them on

2) uhh, many many teens chew gum (although they shouldnt) while they have braces, so obviously its not going to kill you. but keep in mind it may break your braces and that will cost a lot, and your parents wont be so happy.

3) no wayy there are a bunch of kids in high school with braces. probably at least 50%

p.s. if you DO break your braces, i hear you have to keep them on longer, so you will have to continue to have them while in your later high school years,

happy shifting!

when i got mine on they didnt hurt but when they where glueing them on there was alot of pressure. then later that day they didnt hurt it was the day after they hurt but i took a pain relever. but besides thst they wont hurt too bad. and buy the way your not suposed to chew HARD STICKY gum but ive chewed it before and nothing happened plus i just flossed later .p.s. dont chew the surgar gum so you wont get cavities

They might be sore.
I didnt chew gum...It will get all streched around your braces.
No one should make fun of you .. they probly have crocked teeth.

1.no its so painless they don't even have to numb you=)
2.no
3.no also most peo.think their cool
