What do i take if i have a really bad cavity and i cannot sleep because of it?

please help me it is hurting so bad!!!!

I have been in your situation, and other then going to the dentist (which yes I know can be expensive, I had to wait a long, long time to get in) is to swish a mixture of warm water with salt in it and mouthwash repeatedly. The pain in my tooth got so bad, I had to go to the emergency room. There, they can't pull the tooth, but they may be able to give you some pain medication. They gave me some penicillin and acetinophen (sp? well it's just the big word for tylenol) with codeine, however, you may be allergic to codeine, because the rate of that is high. Therefore, they may give you a generic form of vicodin, and that should get rid of the pain. When eating, chew on the opposite side (as I'm sure you already know) and whatever you do, DON'T do the home remedy of using clove oil, it burns the tissues on the inside of your mouth, tastes horrible, and has no affect on the pain. I just recommend taking some aleve, icing the side of your face, and toughing it out, or you can do what I did, and go to the ER for some almost instant relief (after of course the two hour wait to get in to see a doctor lol) I wish you the best of luck, having been there! ALSO---As one of the people above me noted, yes, a numbing tooth gel such as anbesol does help, TO AN EXTENT. You'll feel SOME relief, but not a great amount...The aching in the side of your face that feels like a jackhammer going into the tooth will fade to a duller roar lol
