I'm experiencing the exact same thing you're talking about. I had my filling a month ago. Some days it feels okay, others I have constant pain, throbbing, mostly I feel it in my jaw and gums. I have to take about 3 advil, and then it'll go away. Also I have extreme, extreme sensitivity to cold, even lukewarm water causes major pain. I went back to my dentist, and she suspects I need a root canal, and referred me to an endodontist. Call your dentist and let them know what's going on. Good luck to us both!

Sensitivity (esspecially to hot and cold) can last up to months after you get a deep filling or root canal. Try taking some Ibuprofen, or using some Oragel. Eventually your sensitivity will go away, but it is normal for a while.

It's normal for a tooth to be sensitive to a filling. It could lasts a few days to even a few months. The difference with you is that you said it started to get better then started to hurt again. Usually once it starts to feel better it doesn't go back to hurting.
It sounds like you need a rootcanal. The signs for that are acute pain to hot and/or cold, and sometimes it will feel like it's throbing. It's mainly caused by a cavity that's really close or has reached the nerve of the tooth. Since your dentist already said it was a deep cavity, I'm almost sure that it's a rootcanal you need now.
I think you should go see your dentist and check it out cause it will only get worse. Don't worry, a rootcanal doesn't hurt (unlike what people will tell you), it just costs a lot.
