My dentist refer me to a Endodontics specialist to remove a crown?!

Question:

My dentist refer me to a Endodontics specialist to remove a crown?

the specialist explained me that he has to remove the crown I had done 7 years ago because I still have infection ( a lot of pain), he also has to do another root canal.
My insurance will cover 80% of the procedure, so out of pocket I have to pay $800. I think is a lot of money (About $3400 total). Should I check with other dentists or this seems right to you?

Answers:

I would shop around a little. A root canal where I live is only about $800 bucks, so the rest of the procedure sounds expensive to me.
