Dental work, what will they do?!

Question:

Dental work, what will they do?

i have a hole in the back of my front tooth. it's starting to hurt. what should i expect when i go to the dentist? what will they do to my decaying tooth?

will the dentist think i'm not a clean person because my teeth aren't nice? i'm scared of what they will think when i open my mouth and they see that i have slight decay in a few of my teeth.

Answers:

As a dentist myself, I can tell you that little Sal's answer is absolutely correct, your dentist is there to help you, not judge you. First your dentist will need to take an x-ray to see how far the decay in your tooth has reached. Then he or she will discuss the treatment options with you. If the cavity is relatively small then your dentist may be able to fill the cavity without further treatment. If the decay is extensive the he/she may discuss root canal therapy with you or extraction of the tooth itself. Good luck and don't worry, your dentist is not going to think any less of you because you have a bad tooth... this is why we spent those four extra years in dental school, we love to help people.
