Will I need to have a root canal?!
Question: I just got back from the dentist and when he was cleaning out my tooth before the filling, he said that he was able to see a tiny bit of pulp. He put down some medicine and some sealant and continued with the filling. He said that we should know in about a week if the filling will address the problem or if I will need a root canal.
What are my chances that the filling will hold and that I will NOT need a root canal?

It depends, sounds like he did everything right though. I had this done. The material he put down before the filling stimulates cell growth to help the tooth lay down a new layer of tooth cells to protect the pulp/nerve area so it heals and everything is fine. It may be very cold sensitive for a while. Mine was cold sensitive for over 6 months. However, if it throbs a lot after a day and is very painful to hot, then it may have gotten angry b/c it was so close to the nerve and need a root canal.
You will know if you do. If he was able to seal it , and there is no infection, you should do well. If you get a heckuva toothache, it is drainage time.
It sounds like your dentist done a great job. Teeth can be a funny ting sometimes, in the way that they are not predictable.
what works for one person may not work for you.
Just keep in mind that with modern technologies and a good dentist root canals are not like the horrible stories you hear people talking about.
I have had one myself and it is very much like having a filling, the only difference is the cost!
