First things first - since you have braces you must be seeing your dentist on a regular basis. What is his advise?

Braces by themselves will not cause you problems. The foods you eat while you wear the braces may be a different story. Sugary stuff or any other types that might get "stuck" in the braces for a while will surely be a problem as they will eat away at your teeth.

Your denetist wont be able to do anything for your gums while the braces are on. He will need to remove them - clean - and then replace them.

You should NOT be scrubbing your teeth so hard or for so long that they will bleed. Hurting your self isnt the answer. In all likelihood, your best bet now would be to start rinsing with a mouth wash like scope. This will help get rid of germs and bacteria that collect while the braces are still in place.

Hope this helps - good luck.
