When you get your braces off do you wear your retainer 24/7?!

Question: I heard, the first couple weeks you have to wear it 24/7, and then after a while you wear it only at night? Is that true, or just you always only wear it at night? Please answer in details, and any other info about getting braces off :) thank you.

You are meant to wear it for 24/7 for about 6 months, then the rest of the time (usually another 1 1/2 years) only at night. I never did though for more than a month - and i regret it now cos my teeth dont look the same as they did 4 years ago

if you had to pull teeth prob. but if not ulll still have appointments just like u did when you had braces and he will see when the times right to take them off

yes you do.

Yes, for a while you must wear it 24/7. I don't remember how long exactly but it isn't just a few weeks its much longer. I wear my retainers at night but I have had my braces off for upwards of 5 years. You DO have to keep wearing them, because your teeth will continue to shift otherwise.

Um...My cousin just got her braces of and I believe that you're supposed to wear them 24/7 except when eating and brushing your teeth.
Make sure to brush your retainer whenever it gets 'fogged up'. Avoid eating with the retainer because it will intervene with the structure of retainer. (That's what the orthodontist told my cousin)
Hope this helps. :)

It totally depends on the person. A lot of people only wear it at night which seems ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS to me. As someone whos teeth shift very quickly I absolutely encourage you to wear it 24/7 for the first 2 months or so. There's no point spending all that money to have them shift back. (after 2 years I still wear it all the time)If you're worried about people seeing your retainer you can try asking your dentist for one of those clear ones.

As for what its like to get them off. They will usually take impressions so they know what shape to make your retainer, (yes the goopy gagey stuff). They will take the brackets off with pliers which kind of yanks but will feel so incredibly smooth when they come off! Don't forget to smile!!!

I just got my braces off two days ago and just to throw that out there it didn't hurt as much as getting them on. The only thing that was annoying was when they scraped the glue off. It didn't hurt but it was just like nails on a chalkboard. Well, I got a permanent retainer on the back of my bottom teeth that is only on my middle four teeth. I think everyone gets that but I still have to wear a removeable retainer but I'm not getting that until next week. I think that you do have to wear it 24/7 for awhile except when you are eating and brushing your teeth. I'm not sure though. I might be wrong. Good Luck!

i think so.

I wear mine 27/7 for a few months (I think it was 3 months) after the braces came off, then after that my orthodontist told me that I could wear it at night time only. Since then I still wear them every night until today (it's been 8 years).

Just make sure you take your retainer off while eating, I normally soak it in a glass of water while I eat (I know it's gross, but it's better that way), and then I rinse it before putting it back on. Or if I have toothbrush and toothpaste handy, I'll wash it before putting it back on.
