Is my dentist a lazy dumb %$!@?!

Question: i had a realy bad tooth ache, my tooth is black and shaky, my gum is swelled. I am in pain all the time and the pain only goes when i fill my mouth with cold water. And all my dentist did is prescribe me antibiotics and he said if I continue to feal pain i should come back again because at the moment the x-ray wont be able to detect anything. I told him that the nerve might be dead he said it wont respond to cold water if it is, but today its realy numb and i think the nerve is completly dead. i think that my dentist hates his job and he doesnt feel like working, its not a privat clinic its a NHS clinic (England) so i cant change him. what should i do?

With your gum swollen up like that, it may be difficult to take an accurate xray of that area without causing you more discomfort than necessary at this time. You NEED the antibiotics to reduce the swelling because you have a serious infection in that area. In most cases, you have to get that infection under control before anything can be done. It is more difficult to freeze the area when there's an infection present and I am sure that you don't want to take the chance that the anaesthetic won't work! Take the antibiotics and schedule another appointment in a few weeks. At that time, they should be able to give you an idea of what can be done.

Go to another dentist, black painful tooth = bad

yes get a new dentist

go to another dentist! U cant just keep doing nuthing abt it!!

contact your local primary care trust they may be able too find you another nhs dentist.visit a local dental training hospital they may give u a second opinion and treat u for free.

if u don't like to buy ur health and relax by money and changing that dentist,, it's your choice....

but i think it worths to pay for that....

my clinic is in Jordan, if u want, come to me.. i'll help u

Not necessarily, sometimes it can be a simple gum infection and not a tooth infection or a sinus infection. If it doesn't show on the x-ray it really might not be the tooth. The gum may be swollen b/c you may have gotten something stuck under it and it got infected so antibiotics are the way to go. And be sure you've had a good cleaning.

if the tooth is hurting then the nerve is not dead, plain and simple. since you cant switch dentists maybe you should try his advice, take the antibiotics, see if it helps. if not, then you have reason to go back, right?
