Has anyone had a single tooth porcelain veneer?!

Question: Are you happy with the results? I'm in the process of changing one of my very front teeth due to discoloration. Some people have said I should do the two front teeth so it won't "look funny." Others say that a good dentist can get the job done with one. I don't see the sense in destroying a perfectly good tooth and spending more money if I don't have to. Are you happy with your results?

i'm a dentist and i'll tell u the clinical point of view:
yes it's wrong to destroy the other tooth, if the veneer shape and shade were perfect u'll be fine.. and to correct ur words when u said:" good dentist can get job done with one".... it's not the work of dentist the shape and shade "color " of the veneer.. in fact it's the dental technician skills and experiance... good technician means good veneers...
anyway there is a job for the dentist to prepare the tooth corrictly and to give the advices for the technician and to refuse not matching shades and shapes.. but still the technician has the main Job in that....
summary: a good dentist choose a good technician to make a good veneer....

I've never had vaneers, but I'd say that a good dentist can make a vaneer perfectly match the other tooth, so that it doesn't look like one is 'fake.' A friend of mine cracked off part of her tooth while babysitting (kid threw something at her, can u imagine?) and she had to get a vaneer over it ... you could not tell the difference betwen that one and her other teeth, especially not at first .. but later on you could tell a **tiny** bit but only if she told you which tooth to look at - only because her real teeth got yellower sometimes. They match the shade of the new vaneer to the shade of your other teeth when you get it. Keep in mind as your other teeth yellow with age, etc., the vaneer is going to stay the same color, so you'll have to be good at caring for your other teeth in order for them to all keep looking the same shade etc. Also, it works the opposite way if you get any whitening done. Lets say a few months after you get your vaneer, you decide to get your teeth whitened. The vaneer will not be able to be whitened, because it will have been cast in the old shade of your teeth so that it matched. So, when you whiten your teeth, the vaneer will still hold the same shade as your teeth used to be, and might be noticeable. Get any whitening you're going to have done before you get the vaneer, and then just keep it up to keep all your teeth the same shade.

Worst case, years later, if you weren't happy with the results, couldn't you replace the vaneer and then also go ahead and get the other front tooth done at the same time?

IMO I'm with you, there's no need to whittle down a good healthy tooth. Also, a different friend got a full set of vaneers in the front, top and bottom but although her teeth look prettier, they are not as strong ... apparently porcelain vaneers can crack and chip more easily than actual teeth! She loves them and hates them all at once.
