As long as the retain fits onto your teeth and in your mouth properly you will have no problem what so ever.
u dont need to wear it while u r asleep, usually u wear it during day time, minimum 8 hrs r recomended.
If you're really concerned about it, fall asleep on your side or face down. Most likely, all that will happen is that you will drool-- a lot.
When i had my retainer a while back i would never wear it during the day but i would always go to sleep with it on and nothing ever happened to me. But if you are that scared just make sure the retainer fits you tightly that way you will be sure its going to stay in place and not down your throat...lol

No way i have one too! They are fittes to your mouth so that won't happen! Don't worry totally safe! If it falls out ask your orthodontist to refit it.
Well, what kind of retainer is it? U might just need to get used to it for a while. There are many different kinds of retainers, some u MUST wear 24 hours, only removing it for cleaning. The best would be to ask your dental office. However, they should have given u instructions on care and maintenance of the appliance. Check things out.
