What does it feel like when you have a cavity?!

Question:

What does it feel like when you have a cavity?

Starting last night I get searing, pins & needle feeling in my uppers gums whenever I eat or drink. Pressure does not bother it at all. But man - it really feels awful when I try to drink anything!

Do I have a cavity>

Answers:

You can use a store-bought flouride treatment to cut down on sensitivity. A cavity (basically a hole being dug into your teeth) usually either doesn't hurt at all or it hurts pretty bad all the time. There is a nerve in the center of your tooth--if the cavity has reached that, you'll be miserable until it is fixed, if it hasn't got that far, you won't notice it unless you can see it or run your tounge over it or something.

It may be time for a dentist anyway. If you let a cavity go until you feel it, you need a root canal. You can get three or four cavities filled for the price of a root canal, so don't stay away from the dentist too long--it'll make the bill bigger and the increase the chance of pain when you finally do make it in to get your teeth fixed.
