When your first getting braces put on does it hurt alot or Little?!

Question: It's not really too painful as it is uncomfortable. It's a big change to have a mouth full of wire and brackets. Have you ever had a big wad of bubble gum in your mouth and you just have to get rid of it because your jaws are throbbing?! That's sort of how it feels. Like your mouth and jaws are just so tired. You will find yourself noticing things like moving your mouth differently to form certain words because your lips have to adjust to fitting over and around your braces. That's kind of awkward at first. Make sure your orthodontist gives you plenty of wax to put along the tops and bottoms of the brackets so you won't scratch or cut the inside of your lips. For a while, take it easy and eat only soft foods to minimize the chewing you have to do! Also try breaking or tearing things up into pieces before you eat (like sandwiches, hamburgers, etc.) because you will be sporting a smile full of bread if you don't! Braces are indeed a pain in the ... mouth ... but the rewards far outweigh the trouble. Try taking a pain reliever (not exactly a pain killer; it doesn't hurt that badly and you don't want to have to deal with any prescription drug issues!) like Tylenol, Advil, or Aleve both before you get your braces put on and after. You will need it!

Oh, and one more thing - don't be embarrassed about getting braces and try to cover them up by putting your hand in front of your mouth when you talk or smile. You will just look silly and it will give other kids something to tease you about. There are a lot of people out there in the world who need braces and can't afford them. Think of yourself as one of the lucky ones who is actually able to get them, think about the end result, and smile! Show your tin grin to the world!

It doesn't hurt much to get them on...it's more awkward than anything. Once they're on it will feel really weird in your mouth. You will get used to it though. =)

It hurts when you get them tightened

it hurts to chew anything and sometimes if you bite down when you're sleeping, but the bottom braces hurt more than the top braces. Take a pain killer and that helps.

i haven't tried braces but i was once wore retainers and it hurt my teeth, i never get to use wearing it until i left it in a pizza house where i ate. i placed it on the table while eating my pizza and forgot to take it after eating

Pain is relative. It will be worth it in the end whether you just have discomfort or pain.

It can be quite painful once they have just been tightened .. but its well worth it in the end! : D

well i suggest to take advil like an hour before you get them on. trust me it'll help a lot. but if you dont do that then it'll probably hurt somewhat. but take advil before and after you get them on and and you should be ok.

Not really... but after they are put on is when it's the most plainful I think... your mouth/teeth are super sore and sensitive

Braces at first cause some discomfort because they move the teeth. This pressure causes the discomfort.

Every month, after they are tightened, there is some pressure.
