Jaw popping when i chew?!


Question:

Jaw popping when i chew?

about 10 minutes ago i managed to somehow press my right side of my jaw in and i heard this loud cracking noise just one. then i was eating chocolate and i heard this kind of "crumbling" noise. everytime i open my mouth i hear it. it DOES NOT hurt at all but does anyone know what it is? will it go away? is it not fatal? thank you!

oh and by the way i have braces but this happened today. it never happened before

There is a doughnut shaped disc that is in between your upper and lower jaw (at your tempormandibular joint or TMJ)that may, on occassion slip out of place causing this situation. I am glad to hear it doesn't hurt but try not to irritate it by chewing gum or large bites of food. Usually it will resolve on its own but in some cases it can be a problem down the road.
