Answers:

To increase your chances of getting into dental school, you need to do the following while in college:

1 - Get a very good overall GPA.

2 - Get a very good science GPA.

3 - Get recommendation letters, especially from the science instructors. Get them promptly, near the end of each semester, have the instructors send the recs directly to your school's preprofessional office. One of the most common mistakes is procrastinating until one is about to graduate from college and no instructors remember you at all.

4 - Fulfill your pre-dental course requirements.

5 - Get good DAT scores.

6 - Research which schools you want to apply to carefully. Some schools rarely accept anyone outside of their region.

7 - Do well on your interview and anticipate the hard questions you know the interviewer will be asking you.

That's the open secret to getting into dental school. :-)

After you have done that, then you can start worrying about matching into an ortho program during your 3rd year of dental school.
