Does dipping tobacco have the abrasive grit that chew has?!

Question:

Does dipping tobacco have the abrasive grit that chew has?

i know that one danger of chew is that there is grit that can wear down your gum and your teeth. i was told that dip does not have this. is this true?

Answers:

Chewing and dipping are all the same. Besides the horrible staining, and wear down of tooth enamel, a far more severe thing is going on. The products from the chew/dip are going in down below the gumline, and sitting there eating away at your teeth and roots What this will do, is first off you will notice red/swollen gums. The gums will start to bleed, when you brush or floss. This is the first stage, called gingivitis. The good news about gingivitis, is that is is treatable. Go get the calculus (hardened plaque: has a yellow tint) scrapped off your teeth. They clean both the crown (visible tooth structure) and slightly under the gums. Once this is removed, good brushing and flossing habbits, and this problem is turned aroung and the gums restore back to normal. If this is never done, then your gums will start to recede, along with the bleeding and bad breath. This is the 2nd stage called periodontitis. Bad news, this is untreatable. What happens, is that the calculus that is left on your teeth, starts to attack the bone and root structure. Once bone is lost, there is nothing that can restore it or bring it back. If you have this, you can "maintaine" it, by having regular perio cleanings about every 3 to 4 months, which are more involved ( they go way below the gumline) and of course very good brushing, flossing, and rinsing habbits. After this, if left untreated you have advanced perio. At this stage it is basiclly hopeless. All supporting tooth structure is gone, and the teeth start to become loose/mobile and fall out. Thats when you go toothless or get a denture.

Basiccly if you chew or dip, it will eventuly eat away at your teeth and you have a VERY high chance of lossing them one day.
