i just got my braces yesterday and they dont really hurt much. it is annoying though,it hurt a little at night. But, if you feel the need to, you can take an advil or tylenol. As for the herbst device, it will probably hurt more then braces. it corrects your jaw allignment and you keep it on for a year about (atleast, that's how long my friend had it.) before i got my braces everyone was saying that they would hurt sooo bad, but they really don't. one more thing, when you go to get your braces, might i suggest you bring chapstick. oh, one more thing, the herbst devise is as annoying as anything, but you'll get used to it.

sorry this is so long

Well, I'm also gonna get braces soon...well, not soon, but I am gonna get them. Everyone I've met that got braces on said that they do hurt, but only for about a week or two. It's because your teeth are being forced in a direction they're not used to, so it'll hurt for awhile. But the pain will eventually go away.

take a pain killer before you go and after you leave. they are going to be quite uncomfortable for a few days and then after that you hardly notice them.

I had braces for a year about a year ago, they dont hurt when you have them on however afterwards on the night they do hurt a bit and you may find it hard to eat food your best bet is soup :) However its not painful it wont keep you awake or make you cry or gringe :p its really not that bad. Also my teeth were pretty crokyd so if yours are not misplaced to badly then it will be fine for you! Dont worry you get use to them and after a couple days of having them on you wont feel anything.

They aren't that terrible. I thought they would be really terrible to get put on. I was really wrong. They were actually pretty easy to get on. They do get annoying at times (a lot actually), and it may hurt to chew for a few days after you get them on and after you get them tightened (which will happen a few times). There are some things I don't like but they are well worth it! Good luck!

I don't know anything about a "herbst device" and I've never heard of that. All I know about is braces.

I wear braces and no it doesn't really hurt maybe for a day, but you can take 2 pain killers, and what really helps too is to chew on a frozen baby teether(Which are those little ring that babys chew on) The cold baby teether helps stop the pain.

hurt like hell for at least a day i couldnt sleep but keep in mind my teeth were BAD. GL tho mine come off in a week im so pumped lol I havnt had an apple pr piece of gum in 5 years. Also the ripping of my gum flesh will be gone thank god!

I had braces when I was younger. They'll be uncomfortable for a little while, as others have said, but not for long. After a few days, you won't even know they're there. I was pretty nervous when I went in to get mine on; turned out, I didn't need to be.

They're held on with glue, so there's no drilling or anything like that (assuming they're applying braces the same way now). If I remember correctly, they'll put the individual braces on, then slip the wires in -- don't be scared, it doesn't hurt at all.

I've never heard of an herbst device, so I'm afraid I can't help you there.

Yes, they are "uncomfortable" but when you get them off, it will all be worth it. Just take an Aleve or Motrin before your appointments! Good Luck
