Left side of face doesnt move?!

Left side of face doesnt move?

My friend woke up the other day and the left side of his face is paralysed. He cant move his whole mouth when he smiles it looks like he's smirking. He cant blink his eye very well. Could this because of his wisdom teeth coming in or something else? He is going to the dr I'm just worried.

Thanks for all the answers. He did go to the doctor and he does have Bell's Palsy. It is very scary but he will be ok. He is on some steriod meds and eye drops for his eye. Thanks again.

The only way to know for sure is to see a doctor, as soon as possible. This could be an urgent problem.
He could be having problems with his facial nerve. The facial nerve runs through both ears (middle ear) and each controls the muscles on one side of the face. If this nerve is pinched or inflamed, weakness or paralysis can occur.
I had ear surgery last year, and I woke up one morning and didn't understand why my right eye was watering badly. I was also unable to smile on one side of my face. Inflammation from the surgery was pressing on the nerve, since the facial nerve runs through the eardrum/middle ear, the site of my surgery. Today I am fine, and am fully healed from the surgery. During my research, I have learned that severe untreated ear infections can lead to this as well. There are other factors that can lead to problems with the facial nerve, so it is important to see a doctor right away. This can be very frightening, esp when it is of sudden onset.
