Black on gums?!

Question:

Black on gums?

i went to the beach recently and i changed by diet into like all sugar by accident and one morning i saw some black stuf around my bottom gum near my teeth. Should i brush my teeth more, use mothwash, and floss. Could it be a cavity or something. What can happen to my teeth if i go to the dentist. (Teeth pulled maybe)

Answers:

Sounds as if you need to go to the dental hygienist for a cleaning. Black stuff along the gum line can be a number of things: simply stain from ineffective brushing, it could be calculus (hardened food debris) that requires instruments to remove as it extends under the gums, or it could be an area of decay that requires the attention of the dentist and a filling. Start by making an appointment for a cleaning and checkup and continue with regular checkup appointments for the rest of your life - if you want to eat steak for your 100th birthday instead of baby food!
