I'm guessing the "ring" in the back of your mouth is a metal band, usually cemented to your molars during orthodontic treatment.

It's not uncommon for these bands to have different types of cleats, tubes, and attachments on them that can irritate your lips, cheek, and tongue...but usually you adapt quickly to these things and the irritation goes away. The acids produced by bacteria within plaque would dissolve your teeth long before they would have any effect on the stainless steel metal brackets or bands, so if there ARE holes in the band, the band may simply be broken (it can happen, though it's rare). Clean the area up really well, put some wax over the part that's bothering your tongue, and give your orthodontist a call to see if you can schedule a quick visit to get it checked out. Braces aren't always comfortable, but you shouldn't be miserable the entire time, either. Good luck!

Talk to your orthodontist a.s.a.p.

so call your dentist and tell them its a emergency you get in today and have them check it out.. you wont find any good answers on here...

I don't think cavaties are capable of eating you braces but it may be from any acidic food or soft drinks that you've been having. Whatever it is you need to call up your ortho and get them to fix it asap.

I doubt that they were eaten away by cavities and I'm pretty sure it wasn't caused by "acidic foods or soda" as mentioned by RaspberryIce. Hahaha. Though the bacteria in your mouth do produce acid when presented with sugar. Go to the dentist to get it checked out to see what is wrong back there and what might have caused it.
