Dentist Teeth Whitening?!

Question: So I really don't have any experience in this kind of thing, so you guys are going to have to answer my question like I was in grade 2.

So I decided to get my Teeth Whitened from the Dentist, but I don't really know how I can make an appointment, or anything of that sort. So I'm going to need step by step directions on what to do!

For Example:

1. First of all, what am I even looking for? A dental office? A dental clinic? I don't even know what it's called.

2. How do I find a phone number or address for this kind of thing.

3. How do I make an appointment.

and so on.

Thanks in advance for all the answers! (I know, I'm an idiot~)

I would start by asking people you know what dentist they go to, unless you don't want anyone to know you are thinking on whitening your teeth. Then, look in the yellow pages for DENTISTS. Most dental offices can do teeth whitening. If you live in a metro area there are probably hundreds to pick from. If you want to narrow your search look for Cosmetic Dentistry, but any general dental office with hygienists should be able to provide that service. Once you find the dental listings, just start with calling any one of them. Be up front and tell them you are a new patient and you have questions regarding teeth whitening, the steps involved, and more importantly, ask how much it will cost. Generally, in the dental office, the first appointment will start with an exam. They may want to schedule a cleaning (prophylaxis) before doing any whitening. The steps usually involve impressions to make a tray that fits your teeth exactly and then providing you with tubes or syringes with the whitening material that you will place in the tray and wear over night. There may be a weeks worth in a kit. There may be some more advanced techniques but they will certainly cost more. Insurance companies do not pay for teeth whitening.
Some of the over-the-counter teeth whitening strips work pretty well. You want to be careful though of the coverage area because you don't want to get the whitening material on your gums for any great length of time. Check the ingredients and the procedure. One, other thing. If you have any composite fillings (white colored fillings) or porcelain crowns, the whitening material doesn't work on those. Good luck.

yea, and how much does it cost?

Just call your local dentist office and tell them! They can do it in the office($450.) or sell you the kit (crest white) around $60. An evaluation should be done on the enamel and how strong/sensitive your teeth are, but that's about it. Smile pretty!!
