I dont get it.....please help?!

Question: I have braces and go to the othorodontist every 6-8 weeks and am fine going there. BUT when it comes to going to a normal dentist for a check up, I freak out, I hate being in there. I have regular dentist tomorrow because my othorodontist thinks i may have a gum infection, he told me to go to the normal dentist but i am completly panicking. I hate the normal dentist. Has anyone got anytips for me how to overcome this fear!

Take someone with you to hold your hand. Hopefully you will get over the fear and be able to go on your own. Also dont be afraid of telling the dentist you're scared - they deal with it every day and it might make you feel better knowing they know.

face the fear and maybe go more often i have the same phobia thats all i can say

dont worry everyone has their fears - completely normal tell yourself that you have to do it, IT HAS to happen sometime or another, its better to get it over done with, its not a bad thing - it's ment to help you

good luck :)

I hate it too...... Must be "mind over matter" though..... It's really not that bad, just in your mind you think it is.

Mention how you feel to your dentist, and that you 'really' start to have panick attacks when there. He'll be able to help (hopefully) , be more gentle with his approach, and talk to you, helping you to be more relaxed. (All this is important, because panic attacks can lead to hyper-ventilation and this is not good for your breathing during treatment).

Also why not try Hypnotherapy, this will help you.... make an appointment with a local Hypnotherapist, to talk over your anxieties when having dental treatment.
There's Acupuncture too, so see if this is available, and what this has to offer as a way of alleviating your stress.

You're not alone by the way, this 'fear/phobia' is the one that is most common, around the World !! next to Arachnophobia.

as you sit in the chair ,look at him & picture him naked should make you laugh & ease the fear.
