New braces...hurt!!?!

Question: i got braces on tuesday (its not thursday night) and they are KILLING ME!!! especially my front bottom row, there is one tooth that hurts SO much if i put any pressure on it and it feels kinda woobly. pretty much my whole mouth is burning.
so my questions are...
is this normal??
when will it stop hurting?!

Hoh boy, does your predicament bring back a few memories. I had braces for 4 years. If you got the train tracks then you will experience some discomfort at first. The metal is a new disturbance to your mouth especially your gums which can be very tender for a while. Remember, the reason you have braces is to give you a beautiful set of choppers down the road. When you have pain that means your teeth are moving. The orthodontist makes adjustments every so often and that also makes your teeth move. They move until they are straight. My sister had a tooth on the bottom that actually grew in backwards! Her braces also had to turn that baby all the way around to face forward. I was so buck teeth that kids in school called be bugs bunny. LOL By the time all that pain settled down in the beginning after a week or two, the discomfort wasn't so bad and it was only after the dr. made the adjustments. Sometimes ice helps. Not sure I would take any pain meds other that aspirin or Tylenol, maybe Motrin. Best thing for wires sticking into skin or cheek or sharp edges cutting is an old hard typewriter eraser, or ink eraser, that's the hard white one not the soft pink one. That worked wonders and dulled all the sharp edges and pointy wires. All that suffering is really worth it in the end though. My teeth are beautiful.

its normal braces HURT BAD!!!!!!!....if no one told you that they should of warned you...the first time is by far the worst!!!!!...it will hurt for a long time because your not used to it...probably 7 days but the good news is...it does get better...once your mouth gets used to it...but im sorry everytime you get them tightened they will hurt for 2-3 days...but nothing like that first time...I KNOW ITS BAD...i laid in bed and cried the whole first 2 days i got them on....LOL

OK when i first got my braces on they hurt like hell too. Ok, your teeth are supposet o be a bit wobbly. the braces are moving them. They're gonna hurt, and mine hurts for a week or more, but normally they last only till a week. dont worry. eat soft foods such as pudding, ect.

yeah , i had braces back in my 10th and 11th grade years of highschool. there is nothing you really can do but just take some tylenol or advil or something. when i first got mine, i couldn't even touch my teeth together because it hurt so damn bad! but i promise, after a couple of weeks you get veery use to them. eventually you'll get so use to them that you'll forget you even have them. but when you go for your checkups and have your wires tightened, be prepared for some more pain....but it doesnt last nearly as long as when you first get them. but don't worry too much, i know they suck, but just be glad your parents are paying for you to have nice teeth, bc teeth make up a lot of a person's appearance. your can be the ugliest SOB out there, but if you have a nice set of teeth it makes a world of different on a person's appearance. have fun with your braces!!!

Well, I'm surprised no one told you it was gonna hurt.
The first time you get them on is the worst though.
you will probably get headaches due to the pressure.
and if it would help you to take pain killers, Advil, etc.
i would advise you to do so.
also, eat soft foods, avoid solids.
I'm sorry but, every time you get them tightened it will hurt.
only for a few days, or hours depending on how much your teeth are being moved.
but, don't worry the pain will be gone before you know it.

in the meantime do something to keep your mind off of the pain.

good luck.
:]

they hurt because they're working. when they start to feel better its time for another tightening

your teeth are loose because the braces are literally moving them to the place they are supposed to be. it is normal and the pain is severe i know. the pain you are describing should go away within a week or two. but there will be discomfort the whole time you have braces. and when you go to the orthadontist to get them tightened they will hurt for another day or two. you will suffer the whole time. sorry i have to be the one to tell you this. there are things you can take but you will have to decide for yourself what works best.
