Does braces hurt being put on?!

Question:

Does braces hurt being put on?

Im getting my braces put on friday and i have spacers in now which hurt like, well you should know if you had them. So i was wondering if it hurts when they put the braces on and give me the process if you can. Also is it true the first time you get them tightened hurts the most? Also is there anything i should do to prevent pain?? (ex: Tylenol before i leave or something like that) Thanks

Hey Matt. I had braces put on about a year ago. Basically you just sit down and he starts by applying some goop to little brackets which he glues to each of your teeth. It takes a while, maybe about 15 minutes. Then he bonds them by using a wand that he puts on the back of your teeth for about 5 seconds each. After that they'll slip in the wires, and then you'll get to choose what color of ties you want! (So much fun! lol) And then your pretty much finished! It doesnt hurt much the first few hours but as the time goes on, it gets worse. I'll by honest but the first night or the next morning its pretty brutal!! It really its pretty painful, I didnt take any tylenol but you definately can every few hours if you want. Also, eat lots of soft stuff like jello, ice cream, pudding, and shakes the first few days because its practically impossible to do. About a month later you'll have to go back and he'll put on heavier wires which will probabaly hurt some but not as much. Eventually it'll get to the point where getting them adjusted doesnt bother you at all. I hope this helped! And whatever you go through, just remember I know how you feel! Take care! :)
