What to expect with ativan?!

Question: Here goes, I have to have oral surgery and have six teeth pulled one cut out. I want to be knocked out with an i.v. The dentist doesn't want to do that he wants me to take one 2mg ativan the night before and one 2mg ativan 30min before appt. Now my question is what to expect after taking this and will it really help me because i'm SCARED TO DEATH of the dentist.

I took this when I had to have an MRI done. I'm terrified of any closed spaces (claustrophobic) They gave me 1mg and I was coherent but didn't mind that I was in it. If you take 2mg's I'm sure you wouldn't care if they did anything. You shouldn't feel much pain because you'll be numb and this will actually help the pain as well. This is really a great pill of anxiety before a procedure :)

all ativan will do is slightly calm you. thats it. actually, it doesn't do that to everyone though. it has no pain killing effects, so don't expect it to do that. it has almost no effect on me personally, but a friend of mine wanted to try one and said she felt sortof 'high' like as if she had smoked dope. thats about it. i'm scared for you, i'm a total dentalphobe, for sure. best of luck to you.
i should mention that the friend of mine also gets bulldozed by a packet of neocitran when she has the sniffles, so ?

Lorazepan (ATIVAN) is an excellent anxyolitic /hypnotic drug. It will stay in your body for a few hours, so DO NOT DRIVE PLEASE. You will feel relaxed, sleepy, usually feels like you do not care what the Dentist is doing. It is pretty safe. Have a very ligth breakfast. Good luck! DR J

ativan really helps with an anxiety....so it could help u forget the scarey thoughts of the denist but i find it really odd...how come he wont put u to sleep? and why do u got to get so many teeth taken out?
