Just had to removed. how do prevent dry socket. will i get it?
i just had my back tooth removed because of abscecse. ive had gauze in my mouth for a few hours now it already looks like its healing ok. but my teeth have been getting real bloody so ive stated to rinse it out a few time and its like a huge wall of gooey sticky blood where my tooth was. ive been ready on here and it says that could cause dry socket so i stoped rinsing and jsut kept guaz packed in there and left it alone. am i gonna get Dry Socket??. when will i know. iver herd pain is bad. will i get it?

Answers:

As a dentist I can tell you that there are several precautions that you should take to prevent dry socket. 1. Avoid smoking for at least 72 hours after the extraction, 2. Avoid any exercise that causes any pressure as this can dislodge the clot, 3. Avoid vigorous salt water rinses until at least 24 hours after the extraction and only then can you try GENTLE warm salt water rinses, and 4. Avoid drinking from a straw for at least 72 hours after extraction. Also continue to take any type of antibiotics or pain medication your dentist may have prescribed you and try using a cold compress should pain start to become moderate. If your pain becomes serious or the extraction site starts to bleed heavily then call your dentist as soon as possible for an emergency appointment. Just do yourself a favor and take it easy for a couple days and everything should be fine. Good luck
