My Jaw clicks, hurts, and gives me headaches?!

Question: I had my wisdom teeth removed a couple years ago, and since my jaw crack, hurts, and locks when I wake up in the morning (when it locks sometimes it is hours till I can open my mouth, and sometimes I have to pry it open with hands). I have told my dentist but he said it's o.k.. But why am I having such bad headaches

PLEASE DOCTORS OR PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM, thank you

You have TMJ. While you are sleeping you are clenching your jaw and grinding your teeth (bruxism). You need to see an oral surgeon who will recommend you have a night guard fabricated. Do not buy an over the counter mouth guard. A night guard will be custom made to your bite. This can be made by your general dentist or an orthodontist. He will recommend a soft diet, Advil, warm moist heat and gentle stretching exercises. If he feels it necessary, he will send you for formal physical therapy.

Your headaches are caused from the muscle tightness in your jaws.

TMJ problems are worse when you are stressed. You can also clench and grind your teeth while you are extremely focused, like studying or reading a book.

See an oral surgeon.

google tmj.

sounds like Tmj
to treat for relief eat a diet of soft foods stay away from anything crunchy and take asprin.
buy a mouth guard (you can get them at walmart) for wear overnight so you dont clench or grind your teeth.
thats about all you can do really
and dont open mouth too wide ( if you do it will feel like your jaw will just want to snap shut and it will pop and hurt)

tmj, my friend has it.

Sounds like TMJ symptoms. Go to your Doctor not dentist, not the dentist, he may order xrays that would show if you have TMJ, or arthritis there, there are ways to improve it maybe even physical therapy. For now, try sleeping with a "nightguard" its sorta like the mouthpiece football players use. You can buy it at the drug store usually $20 just wash it daily, itll help prevent you clenching your teeth in sleep...thats a cause for some people. Also, use 2 fingers, press lightly on your jaw joints and rub in circular motion for a few min. see if that helps loosen any tiightness. You should still see a Dr. b/c this can lead to bigger issues.

TMJ dysfunction! You should definitely make a trip in to a tmj specialist, they will be able to help you!

It doesn't sound okay to me! I would get a second opinion. There are dentists who specialize in TMJ, check your phone book or call the closest Dental School for a referral. The headaches may be related.
You can go to the ADA web site: http://www.ada.org/. There are several links on this page that will help you find a dentist, or about TMJ disorders: http://www.ada.org/public/topics/tmd_tmj...
Good Luck!

I have TMJ also.I have had since i was 16 years old.Im 29 now.I was just like you with not being able to open my mouth and by the way not a good feeling! But over the years it got better and that part went away.My denist advised me that the reason behind TMJ is that one side of your teeth is closing down before your other side.My denist did a painless test and showed me.You can wear a night guard while you sleep but you can also have your denist file down some of your teeth,The side that is coming down first. Its painless and very affective.
