Your gums are puffy because they're swollen. They'll probably bleed when you brush and floss, but that doesn't mean you should baby them. They've gotten that way because you didn't keep your teeth as clean as you should while you had braces. ;) They will reduce in size over the next couple of weeks, and that will happen more quickly if you get and keep everything clean.

It's normal for your retainer to make your teeth a bit sore at first. Your orthodontist may have tightened the wire in a specific way in order to hold it in place or make a slight movement of your teeth. That soreness will go away in a couple of days.

As for your speech, the best thing you can do is talk. A lot. Read out loud, talk to yourself, etc. Your tongue needs to get used to having that plastic in the roof of your mouth, and the only thing you can do is give it practice. You'll get better quickly, and in a few days to a few weeks you'll be able to speak just fine again with the retainer in place.

Congratulations! Good luck.

All that will go away in about 2 or 3 days!

well, if there the plastic retainers you need to tell your dentist it makes youe mouth swell.
if its the metal ones i think its normal, just wait a few days. if it doesnt go away tell your dentist :] he/she/transestite lol jk only no 's whats best for you

Congratulations! It will be sore for a few days.
