Bump on hard palate?!

Question: I noticed it last Saturday, it felt like a tooth coming (so if hurt some what) in and when I looked at it, it didn't look normal, it was way off of my jaw line, I was worried, so I went to the dentist, he took some X-ray's, looked at them and the bump didn't show up in them, so he looked in my mouth and said it sure wasn't a tooth, he said it was some kind of growth and that I needed to get it removed ASAP, so he recommended me to go to a different dentist, who specialize's in extraction's.

A few hours later, I went there and he took a look at it. He said that he thinks that I have some sort of virus and that I should drink a lot of fluids, make sure it doesn't get any bigger. & if it did get bigger, that I would have to come back in so that he could cut a piece out and send it in to check if it's cancer.
I don't have insurance, but I will get some, it's suppose to take affect on April 1st.
Do you think the dentist was just being lazy?? or what do you think the bump could be?

This sounds completely whacked. If he even suspects possible carinoma why wouldn't he take a tissue sample and biopsy this ?? I have had several unexplained palatal cysts in my lifetime, they usually do just go away. Benign growths will pop up in all different places on a human body for no rhyme or reason. I wouldn't be overly concerned, you are right to get it checked though---- the only odd part to me is that he didn't just do the biopsy anyway--- for your peace of mind. Sounds like cost cutting. If it were me, I'd get a third opinion--insurance or no insurance. And I would see an oral surgeon not a dentist.

As long as it is not ulcerated, red, hurting, and growing you are probably ok. There are things called tori that grow on the roof of the mouth. This is extra bone that develops in the center of the roof of the mouth where the deepest part of the roof of the mouth would normally be. It can grow and stop for a while and then frow some more. These are normal and just bone. However, if you are experiencing swelling in the area just behind the front 2 teeth this could be a cyst which is most likely benign but can grow and damage other teeth, see an oral surgeon. You could probably wait till april. If they told you it was a virus, it would have probably been a fever blister/ herpes simplex lesion. These are blisters that swell, burst, and make ulcers. They feel like canker sores, but if occur on tightly bound tissue such as the hard palate or on lips are herpes blisters. They can be very painful. These will pass w/in a few weeks. They come and go. Anything that does not get better after about 2 weeks other than tori, should be checked or biopsied.
