Worried about retainers?!

Worried about retainers?

Hi i have recently learned that that after i get my braces off i will have to wear retainers during the day for about a year, im a bit worried do they make you talk wierd and also do i really have to have them for the rest of my life at night?

Also if they do make me talk wierd how wierd, what sounds will i not be able to say properly.

YAY!!! your gettin your braces off! thats awesome... Ive had mine off for about 4 years now and the retainer thing really isnt bad at all.. I sometimes forget to wear it and when I put it back in its a little tight but my smile is totally worth it. besides, your sleeping what do you care if your wearing something on your teeth? as per the year you have to wear it during the day... it really depends on what style retainer your othadontist prescribes for you. I have the clear plastic one on my upper teeth and a permanent non-removable one behind my lower teeth. they dont affect my speach at all. sometimes the metal ones with the plastic piece that goes against the roof of your mouth can cause a slight lisp until you get used to it...but its not that bad and anyone who decides to make fun of you for it can just look in the mirror and say, "hey, I may be talking clearly but my teeth suck!" hehe... good luck hun... and no worries.
