How soon can you eat after a wisdom tooth extraction?!

Question:

How soon can you eat after a wisdom tooth extraction?

I just the tooth at the very back of my bottom rightg side extracted, and it hurts real bad... and the anesthetic is taking forever to wear off.. but I'm kind of hungry.. but my mouth is all nasty :-(

Does anyone know how long before I can eat something light, and do I wash afterward (obvisouly I'll try to use mostly the side that's not abused)...

Thanks, people! ;-(

Answers:

You NEVER NEVER drink from a straw for about 7-10 days after having a tooth removed. (No sucking motions) As others have stated this can dislodge the clot that covers the nerve in your jaw and cause extreme pain. (Dry Socket) You should rinse GENTLY, NO SPITTING (just let the liquid trickle from your mouth after brushing teeth and etc.) and eat only soft foods for the first day or two after oral extractions.
