Ignore what people say about it hurting, that's just rubbish, i was nervous the first time i had one, the main thing is to listen to your dentist, when they say open as wide as you can do it, and try to relax, if you are tense then it will hurt, don't move and you will be fine, i wont lie it feels a little weird but it certainly doesn't hurt, the injection usually consists of a form of cocaine and trust me it does its job well. after about 30 seconds you wont feel half your mouth and cheek :P its a funny feeling.

Just don't be worried about it if it was really painful the wouldn't be doing it, people who say oh it hurt sooo much are just overreacting :)

I hated those shots.

well i can tell you this.. the anaetheisa works really well. the needle it self doesn't really hurt. they ususally put 3 injections at the bottom area between the gum and cheek (or depending on where the tooth is).. it feels like a long prick but it is not painful at all.

they hurt.....braces everything hurts after IT SUCKS

compared to the pain following the procedure, the pain of the anesthesia is nothing

It's not exactly a barrel of laughs, but it's bearable and it's a whole lot better than the alternative!

it depends on the person doing it...sometimes they hurt like hell, other times they don't hurt so bad, but it's worth it !!
why though are they taking teeth out to put braces on?

usually the dentist applies a topical anesthetic, but the force of the Novocain into the tissue spaces does cause discomfort. My advice is to close your eyes, relax your jaw muscles and let the injection be a "surprise".

Oh I went through tht! I was getting braces and I got 2 days off school. Firstly they rub some smoothers on your gums, then give you some injections (you have about 2-4 for 1 tooth at a time) and it's the worst part. But you should be grateful as if tht hurts, think how much pain you would be in without it! Anyway, I've now got great teeth and its worth it!

No , my dentist puts numbing cream on the gum when he injected me then you wont feel as thing apart from a tiny prick. it depends if your dentist puts on dumbing cream. ive had a tooth out but when i was alot younger but theres nothing to worry about. good luck.

Not what you're thinking off, I guess. The pain of the injection is just like the pain of an ant bite. Bearable. In a minute, you will feel numb around the jaw, around the injected area. then you will feel no pain anymore even if they extract more than two teeth at the same time.

I had it done when I had my wisdom teeth pulled. I don't remember it being painful, but I remember just feeling anguished! I know sounds weird, but no matter what it doesn't last long because you are out like a light and don't know what the heck happened anyway. Maybe other people
experience other things. When I have had surgery and they have put me under, it went into an IV instead and they told me to count backwards and I don't remember anything past 9. lol.

Now that I have read everyone's answers, I am thinking that you are going to stay awake instead of being injected in the arm.

If that's the case, the initial stick hurts a little like being stung, but nothing so terrible that you can't handle.

. I had to go through the same thing as you. They had to pull out 7 of my teeth in order for me to get my braces. It doesn't really hurt as much as you think it would. The shots of novacaine are just slight pinches to numb your mouth and they also add this blue stuff to your gums that numbs them as well, so you don't feel much of it. There is nothing you should really worry about.

Sounds painful enough for me!
