I have dental fillings that contain mercury and I heard...?!

Question: I heard dental fillings with mercury in them can cause birth defects and other things...

Is there a chance that when I have kids, they will have birth defects. How true is this? Should I be worried? I'm really paranoid and would like to know that my future children will come out all right.

Mercury in Dental Fillings -
Some dental fillings contain mercury. In 1997, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration reviewed nearly 60 studies about mercury exposure and dental fillings. The FDA concluded that the health risk was low and that there was no reason to change dental practice. The World Health Organization agrees with this assessment. Meanwhile, dentists have begun using materials that do not contain mercury. Research on dental fillings continues.

The governments of Canada, Germany and New Zealand recommend that pregnant women avoid dental fillings that contain mercury.

Unless mercury fillings are broken or damaged, they should not be removed since removal may release mercury.

If you have concerns about dental fillings, speak to your dentist.

never herd about that if ur soo worried get em takin out

Seriously? You don't know what a hazard mercury poses to the human body?

It can cause waaaaay more problems than birth defects.

Do a little research sweetheart.

Heavy metals like Mercury are virtually impossible to remove from the human body, and can cause serious mental problems.

People who were "Mad Hatters" years ago, we're called so because the Mercury they preserved their hats in turned them batsh*t crazy.

They contain mercury and it's anybodies guess what the mercury vapor does to the human body. If you have the money get gold fillings. They last a long time. I've had mine for 13 years.

Woah. Mercury fillings are reeeaaly old. If they get to your head, you can go crazy. But that only happens when mercury is exposed to our open skin, and soaks in.

hey Susie i bet you sold more girl scout cookies than anyone in your troop but this is the real world. How bout worrying about your children being drug dealers or a rapist. Stop worrying your self about dental fillings!

You (and your future kids) will be fine. That little tiny bit of mercury won't do a thing. Its not like the entire filling is 100% mercury! lol, if your THAT concered just call a dentist.

there is a small quantity of mercury in them, and it remains there anyway.

I don't see why they would use mercury, especially in your mouth. I mean there was a mercury spill at my school and they were treating it like a deadly substance, so if they did I wouldn't be worried because it's probly not alot.
