Does anyone know of additional insurance for braces available?!

Question:

Does anyone know of additional insurance for braces available?

My husband is in the military so we have United Concordia. I was told that it does not cover braces for the spouse after age 23. I got the braces put on the month I turned 23 last September, and I think they are only going to cover like$300 of $5k. Does anyone know of additional insurance that can be purchased to help out with some of my orthodontic plan? Thank you.

Answers:

Many plans now cover orthodontic treatment for adults as it is becoming more common. Besides cosmetic benefits, there are many health benefits to having teeth that are aligned properly.

However, once you are in ortho treatment, you can't buy another plan and expect it to cover something that has already started.** You would have to have the insurance in effect as of the start date of your treatment.

Care Credit or Dental Fee Plan should help you out, but you've probably already got a payment plan going through your current orthodontist.

**Why would an insurance company take whatever you pay in premiums and give your orthodontist MORE than that amount in treatment payments?? Doesn't make sense, does it?
