Does TMJ have any relation to an inner ear infection?!

Question: A couple of weeks ago, I was experiencing symptoms like vertigo & feeling dizzy & having loss of balance. I went to the ER, & the doc did a CAT scan. He found nothing wrong, & he gave me anti-dizziness meds. For the past 3 days, my jaw has been hurting, & it pops easily. & it feels like my jaw alignment is out of place (I used to have braces), & it feels like my jaw is about to break when I bite down on food. I've also been experiencing tooth-grinding AKA bruxism. Ever since yesterday, I've been feeling occasional spasms of sharp pain in my ear. Do you think I should go to the doc. tomorrow? My health insurance doesn't cover dental expenses, so I think I might be out of luck with that.

Well, TMJ refers to the temroral mandibular joint, located just above and foreward the ear. most dentist wont tell you because they probably dont know.... Orthodontics, most commonly known as braces..... Can cause you to have TMJ. So you have fixed one problem (crooked teeth) and caused another (TMJ). Most TMJ problems can be relieved by using a splint.
Possibility #2 : Third molar (wisdom teeth) also located near the ear. The best thing to do is see your dentist for Xrays.

TMJ will bother your ear for sure! I have to go to a special doctor soon because of that.

WEll, if its on the left side the ear hurting I think would surely have to do with the TMJ.
Im sorry you dont have any dental insurence. Im not really sure what to tell you.

I know the pain you are talking about.
When I wear ear plugs (I have to for work) I get a very sharp pain in my ear, and near my jaw line right under it. PLus the popping when I open to wide.

If you tell your doctor I think if will just tell you to see dentist. But tell him anyways, and tell him about not having dental insurence. I hope they can help you

My ma has tmj.

It does sound a lot like tmj and yes she fought with the insurance, they list it as dental and the dentist list it as medical. finally she got it listed as medical and then they placed at as cosmetic. Eventually she got insurance. She's had tmj roughly around 32 years and very sever.

But anyway yes that sound like tmj you have. I believe it can affect the ear also.

YEs! when I was younger one of my worst ear infections came with these symptoms.. my jaw hurt, my bite was off,, I could not bite down or eat, sharp pains in my ear dizziness and I went to the Doc. and I had a ruptured ear drum, He said i might have done it with a q-tip.. it took about a week before I could bite down Normally again!! Go to the Dr and have him check your ears!!

TMJ effects the nerves, and can lead to ear pain. But testing for TMJ can become expensive because Dr. like to rule out many other things first. If this is TMJ there is no easy cure expect learning to relax your jaw. You may be tempted to have surgery but this may or may not solve your problem and recovery is hard and long.

Open your month and allow your jaw to drop slightly easing all your face muscles. Buy a night guard against teeth grinding and after a few months you may see improvement. Learn to notice when your grip your teeth together during stress and try not to do this. TMJ can be hard to pin point but you can do these few things to help reduce the pain on your own. Best of luck.

Stop spraying that stuff in your ear! that might help

it could be one of 3 things
tmj,ear infection or your sinus's
omg believe me i know i have tmj problems sometimes
when i eat hard foods like raw carrots or bitting into a apple

i used to get ear infections all the time growing up (swimmers ear)
