Novocaine not wearing off....?!

Question: I had my wisdom teeth pulled on February 15th, 2008 at 8:30am in the morning, it is now February 17th 2008 @ 9:37pm, and the Novocaine in the right part of my tongue and jaw STILL hasn't worn off yet. Is this nerve damage? I don't know what to do, it's getting very irritating, and hard to eat, am worried this might be permanent! Help!

This condition is known as "dental parathesia" and is a common problem with the administering of anesthetics. You should contact your OS or dentist to have this evaluated. In most instances the sensation returns slowly, although there are some cases of permanent nerve damage where the sensation never returns. Your dentist or OS will want to examine and evaluate the area and check this over a period of days or weeks to determine if the sensation is returning or will return to normal.

Get in touch with your dentist and ask him his opinion. Good luck.

Maybe Consult Your Dentist...

Hope I Helped!

i would consult your dentist/oral surgeon if i were you just to be safe, it could be nothing but it could be some type of reaction to the novacaine or as you said it could be nerve damage

I think this is one of the risks from novicaine use. I believe it will wear off. The same thing happened to me when I had an epidural during childbirth (this numbs your body from the waist down so you do not feel the pain) Part of my left leg was numb for over a week!!
