Question about braces and rubber bands.?!

Question:

Question about braces and rubber bands.?

I've been wearing braces for about nine monthes now, the estimated treatment time was two years when i first got them on. even just in this nine monthes my teeth have dramatically improved. I have been wearing rubber bands for about two monthes now, and i was just wondering are rubber bands one of the last stages of treatment? It seems like when all my friends were in their last few months they were wearing rubber bands.
so yeah, does starting in on rubber bands mean i could be getting these things off sooner than expected?

would it be rude to ask my orthodontist if it looks like i am going to get them off earlier than expected? my friends tell me they get sort of angry when you ask questions like that.

Answers:

Remember that 2 years is estimated. Once the doctor gets your teeth into better positions, you can start to wear rubber bands to help close spaces and to correct the bite. This doesn't necessarily mean you are being close to finishing. The teeth can dramatically change in that amount of time, but for them to be in the right position and to stay in the right position they need to be held in place for stability. You may wear the rubber bands for a few months and then stop and restart them later in treatment. There is a chance the treatment could be less than 2 years but your doctor would let you know. Just make sure when you are told to wear the rubber bands that you do so! That is a very important part! good luck!
