I have to get my first premolars removed 2 on top and 2 on bottom?!

Question: i was wondering if someone could take the time to tell me exactly what happens, step by step. i would really like to be as informed as possible. i was also wondering if it would be bad to lift weights after the procedure. and if so, for how long

I'm assuming this is for braces? :)

Extractions are fairly simply procedures when done on premolars. What we do is numb you around the area where the teeth are (on the tooth and on adj teeth). Once you're numbed properly, we extract the teeth with our instruments. Since you'll be numb, all you will be feeling is the pushing and pulling sensation; no pain whatsoever. If, however, you are feeling some sensitivity, just let your dentist know, and they can either wait a little bit longer for the anesthesia to take further effect, or give you a bit more anesthesia.

Once your teeth are out, you need to take care of the area by only eating soft foods, and definately no drinking via a straw (negative pressure can dislodge the healing blod clot in your extraction socket, causing a dry socket, which is EXTREMELY painful).

Depending on you, your dentist may or may not prescribe antibiotics and painkillers.

It's fine to lift weights afterwards, although i'd recommend some rest the first 24-48 hours after your extractions, esp if you're getting all four out the same day.

Hope that helped

I can bet that these teeth were extracted because you will be getting braces soon. Anyway. no, dont lift any weights untill you have completly healed. Because lifting weight will cause your blood preasure to increase...... Which will then cause your wound to bleed. Just take it easy for the next week.
