Use laughing gas or not?!

Question:

Use laughing gas or not?

Okay so I'm gonna have all my wisdom teeth removed. I'm a very calm person when I go to the dentist, I never get scared or nervous cuz I never feel any pain cuz of the novocaine. I've had two extractions and both times the doc asked if I wanted gas or not and I said no. I was perfectly fine during the procedure cuz I just sat there and watched tv while they pulled out my teeth. But should I get the gas when I have my wisdom teeth pulled? My friends say they like the gas, makes them feel good, me I could really careless. But should I try it?

Answers:

Assuming that you are going to have your wisdom teeth out at the general dentist office and that your options are to have local anesthesia or local anesthesia and Nitrous Oxide gas (laughing gas); then I think the choice is completely up to you as to what you're in the mood for. What I mean is that considering the past experiences you've had with extractions and the fact that the general dentist is going to do it, I think that the extractions are expected to be relatively simple and atraumatic. Having wisdom teeth out can range from a quick and easy, simple extraction all the way to a traumatic surgical extraction of full, bony impacted teeth, requiring deep sedation. In my opinion, based on the circumstances you present it seems that the biggest issue would be are they going to charge you extra for the gas? If not, and you feel like giving it a try, go for it. Consider, however, that some people (very few) actually don't like having Nitrous. Some people get uncomfortable with the feeling of loss of control. If this isn't something that you think will happen to you, then it probably won't.
If it was me, I'd take the gas.
