Will where I go for undergrad affect getting into dental school?!
Question: I've just been accepted into the University of Michigan, Saginaw Valley State University, and Grand Valley State University. I really love GVSU and SVSU, but I'm not really liking U of M. However, I've heard that if you go to the undergraduate school that you want to attend as a dental school, chances for acceptance are increased. Does anyone know if where you go for undergrad affects your chances of getting into dental school? Also, if I do not decide to go to the U of M, which other school should I go to?

Agree. Grades and DAT most important. The school does need to offer 4-year bachelor degrees. I personally went to community college for 1 or the 4 years to save money...a collegue of mine went to com college 2/4 years and got into dental school at the same time as me (in the first round of acceptances). My school at the time (OHSU) had a breakdown of what they looked for from applicants (scale of 100 points): Grades 50; DAT 25; Interview 15; Extracurricular and other stuff, including things like observation in dental offices 10. <-- I suppose it could have included "school gone to", but that issue never came up. Call the dental school's admission office that you are most interested in and they should be glad to help you. Best wishes.
Usually has more to do with GPA and test scores. However, just be sure all classes transfer to the dental school you plan to attend.
