This is an answer I usually give to those who are preparing for a tooth extraction and don't know what to expect:

I will try and fully explain it, but simply as well:

1. They numb your gum with a medicine called Novocaine injected into your gums. This is usually the most painful part and it is generally just the fear of a needle in the mouth that cause it to be so uncomfortable.

2. After the nerves around the tooth are completely numb, they will use whats called a Laxater (I think that's what it's called), a small staff shaped like a flat head screw driver, and it will be inserted between the gum and the tooth down to the roots where they will pry the gum away from the tooth on all four sides. This is to separate the ligaments that bind the tooth to the gum to make the tooth loose for extraction. (TRUST ME, it sounds painful when I describe it, but it is completely painless).

3. They will then use special pliers to grip the tooth, with which they will then pull the tooth to one side for a few seconds, then to the other side, they then wriggle the tooth around with a little bit of tension and, abra-cadabra, the tooth should just come right out of the socket. Sometimes this can be a little difficult and they may need to redo step 2 to loosen it some more, depending on the root structure of the tooth. During this process you will probably feel a lot of pressure. You just need to remember that this is NOT pain (Some people get too anxious and confuse it for pain, just because usually with this much pressure generally there is pain, but not in this case, just pressure).

4. They will then rinse the socket out to check for any bone fragments that may be left in the socket, and finally, place a damp gauze (Tissue like bandage) onto the socket and tell you to bite firmly on it.

5. they will give you some extra gauzes to put on it later if the bleeding has not stopped.

6. Now you just need to make absolute certain that you DO NOT DEVIATE from the rules that you need to follow for the next few days after an extraction.

If you would like to see how painless it is, go to Youtube and type in Tooth Extraction. They actually have a few demonstrations on real live patients, and you can see how painless and calm they are when they are getting the tooth pulled.

There will be a bit of pain afterwards for probably the rest of the day starting at about a 9, but a few pain killers and a long sleep with a couple of extra pillows ( You WILL need the extra pillows to help stop the bleeding by keeping your head elevated), and you will be starting to feel fine when you wake up. The pain by then should be a measly 2 or even 1 by that time. Not much to worry about if you follow the steps the dentist gives you afterwards.

Good luck with it and don't stress too much.
I hope I answered what you were trying to find out.

yeah, it's going to hurt.

I have no idea sorry!

ya...................... not much cuz they numb it or put u to sleep but it hurts after the mosstttt!!!! and goes away within a week (more or less)

The only thing I didnt like was the sound when they pulled out the tooth and the breeze you can feel when they remove the tooth, but its painless (the only painful part is the shot to numb you) but its really not that bad, just sleep it off when you get home.

tooth extraction is not painful at all. do not be scared.
