yes it does hurt when they put them on take tylenol before your appt try to relax because you will be in the chair for awhile
2. they will start by putting the brackets on first then they will tighten and use an adhesive to hold it to your teeth it is kinda like a cement but remember to spit because it will tase nasty
3. you will be sore but not like you can't eat sore you won't want to eat anything really hard with your braces and do not open your mouth really wide at all because that will hurt just eat like soft foods soup jello ice cream and lots of popsicles that will help oh and after you ae done with the dentist because of the adhesive you might not be able to drink for 30 minutes . hope this helps you some oh and by the way take some chapstick with you because your lips will be dry .

Hi, I'm a dentist.

Braces can cause abrasive damage to the lips/cheeks in the first few weeks after they are placed, until your tissue toughens up and adjusts to the metal in your mouth. Also, when you have wires adjusted and/or elastics in place, there will be some minor discomfort for a few days following each adjustment.

The brackets are bonded to the tooth with a special glue that bonds to enamel, similar to tooth-colored filling material.

Ibuprofen (advil/motrin) will help considerably, as it reduces inflammation and pain.

You should avoid eating stickly foods (caramels/taffy/melted cheese/chewing gum), and you should cut soda and candy out of your diet completely.

All this for straighter teeth, not to mention the thousands of dollars orthodontics costs.

Good luck.
