Lost tooth Filling, tooth may be abcessed?!

Question: About 3 years ago, i had lost the filling to one of upper teeth on the far left side. About a week ago ive been experiencing pain around that tooth and gums and i can barely chew on that side of my mouth. Today i woke up with a bump on my gums around that tooth where the filling fell out. Could my tooth be abcessed or what is going on?

Any pain that isn't going away should be checked by a Dentist. An abscess occurs when there is an infection present in the tissue...if your body isn't winning the battle it walls up the area so the infection can't spread. This "contained" infection is an abscess. Sometimes pressure on it will cause pus to come out. Pus is like a liquid graveyard of immune cell soldiers and cells who died in battle. Infections need to be treated with antibiotics before a Dentist can even fix the tooth.
My step son had a major problem with pain and swelling about a week ago with a fever and everything and it turned out to be a piece of finger nail that was stuck between his molar and gums! But it's always best to have it checked out by a Dentist or Dr. just in case.

That sounds like an abscess. You need to see the dentist soon or you could lose the tooth.

When your filling fell out, there was probably decay which undermined tooth structure which held the filling in the tooth. So you left it for 3 years while the decay continued to progress. Now you are in trouble. Yes, your tooth is abscessed and the pus has burrowed through the bone and has finally found a way out, through your gum tissue...that is causing the swelling.
One person suggested going to the dentist soon or you may loose the tooth. Actually it is probably so decayed now that it may not be salvageable. Congratulations, 3 years of neglect has generated this problem.
"Ignore your teeth and they will go away" seems to be an appropriate saying in this case.

Hello..From what you describe the chances are you do indeed have an abscessed tooth. More than likely the bump you feel is the abscess material rising to the surface. More importantly, when a bump appears that means that gum bone structure is being destroyed. The pain your feeling is probably being caused by the gas that an abscess creates. That gas causes pressures as it builds up around the tooth's nerve. Once that bump reaches and breaks through the gum surface the gas escapes and the tooth will feel some what better but will still be a serious condition. You must remember that an abscess creates a poison if you will and if it gets into your blood stream and you have a heart condition the infection will go straight to what ever weak area your body has and if it's a heart condition your setting yourself up for a serious health issue..listen, I mean serious. See a dental health professional ASAP
