Weird mouth question?!

Question: My boyfriend complains of these little white pieces of matter that comes out of his tonsils. He uses a straight pin to open up the flaps on the tonsil to get them out. He swears up and down that if he doesn't get them out he will have problems. What is that? Also, I felt like I had really rank breath, so while brushing my teeth I felt a tiny "ball" in the back of my throat. I make myself gag it up and it was a little white ball of matter. It looked just like my boyfriend's nasty stuff. It smelled really bad too. What is it?

Tonsil stones maybe. Its what it sounds. You can find information on google or answers(a lot of people ask questions about them)

Ah! I was just talking to my boyfriend about this the other day. I've had it too and I asked my Dr. what the heck it was...cause it's yuck!
You're tonsils have these "pits" in them, because tonsil are part of the immune system and designed to catch stuff that passes by as a line of preemptive defense. Other than just bacteria, food particles get stuck in there too. So the food is stuck and then the bacteria starts chowing down on it and it gets funky. Then your body pushes these funky chunks out hence the stinky tonsil curds. It's not a dangerous or bad thing and there isn't a whole lot you can do about it. But gargling especially with hydrogen peroxide (diluted with equal parts water) can help :)

Gunk that you gagged up was probably phlegm?

He should really not be using a straight pin like that, that is far too risky to accidentally end up trying to swallow it. Get one of those toothbrush things with the little bitty end on it or something...
