Is crest toothpaste manufactured in China?!

Question:

Is crest toothpaste manufactured in China?

I want to know because of the article I read on Yahoo! that said anti-freeze has been found in some toothpaste manufactured in China.

Answers:

There is a recall on certain toothpastes made in China which have diethylene glycol (DEG) as an ingredient. This is similar to a component of antifreeze and can cause various problems.

"Diethylene glycol (DEG) is a glycol compound possessing toxicity similar to ethylene glycol. It is a Central Nervous System depressant and potent kidney and liver toxin when ingested. It is commonly used in industry as a solvent, a thickening agent, a humectant, and as a component in antifreeze and gas conditioning formulations.

"DEG has been improperly used as a low-cost substitute for glycerin and propylene glycol in pharmaceutical preparations resulting in various lethal poisoning incidents in humans worldwide."
To me, the biggest problem is that DEG is also known by over 30 other names.

So far the list of recalled product includes:

Exported by Gold Credit International:
Cooldent Fluoride
Cooldent Spearmint
Cooldent ICE
Dr. Cool Toothpaste
Everfresh Toothpaste
Superdent Toothpaste
Clean Rite Toothpaste
Oralmax Extreme Action Toothpaste
Oral Bright Fresh Spearmint Flavor
Bright Max Peppermint Flavor

Exported by Suzhou City Jinmao Daily Chemicals Co:
ShiR Fresh Mint Fluoride Paste

This list will be updated as needed and it can be found on the FDA website at: http://www.fda.gov/ora/fiars/ora_import_...
