Oral sedation?!

Question: About a month ago I posted a question about dental phobia. Being that I'm extremely scared to get the numbing shot for my cavities... my mom recently found an ad for a dentist who offers oral sedation from a pill. I've never heard of this so I was wondering if anyone has had an experience with this...

YES ORAL SEDATION IS OFFERED BY DENTISTS AS AN ALTERNATIVE TO IV SEDATION.
THE PATIENT IS GIVING A REQUIRED DOSE OF A DRUG SIMILAR TO VALIUM ITS SLOW ACTING AND COULD TAKE UP TO AN HOUR TO KICK IN YOUR DENTIST WILL MONITOR YOU AND ONLY BEGIN TREATMENT WHEN THE PATIENT IS HAPPILY SEDATED.
YOU'LL STILL NEED TO GET THE LOCAL ANAESTHETIC TO NUMB THE AREA WHERE THE DENTIST WILL BW WORKING BUT THIS WILL BE DONE AFTER THE SEDATION HAS KICKED IN SO DONT WORRY YA WONT FEEL IT OR BE AWARE OF IT, YOU CAN ALSO ASK YOUR DENTIST TO APPLY TOPICAL ORAL ANAESTHETIC GEL TO THE AREA BEEN INJECTED THIS WILL GIVE LOCALISED NUMB FEELING BEFORE THE INJECTION.

i hadn't heard of that either, but i think you should trust the dentist with the numb shots.

theyre really nothing to be afraid of, they're only trying to help you not feel pain.

Which part are you afraid of? The needle? The dentist puts a swab in the area first that numbs that area, you feel nothing. If seeing the needle bothers you, just let the dentist know and close your eyes. It's really the same as NOTHING happening.

Then it gets numb, I don't think you're afraid of that part, since the pill would probably do the same thing. Me personally, I'd rather just not take any pills, you never know with side effects and all that. I haven't heard of a pill either. Not sure if you want to trust it if it's not widely used, not sure I'd want some rare or alternative type dentist messing with my teeth

A sedation pill will only make you loopy, not numb the pain. I'd still go with the numbing shot. The pill will probably relax you to the point where you don't care if you're getting poked with a needle.

i had the same phobia, because of a bad experience as a child, but a while back i had a filling, and my gum was numbed even before the injection, i felt NOTHING, and i MEAN nothing.
so dont be scared.
