I have a sore by my tooth, does rinsing with salt water actually work?!

Question: I believe it was irritated by my tooth brush or something and maybe has a tiny infection. I'm not very sure because as it is behind my tooth I cannot see it. It really just feels like a little sore and it hurts when I brush my teeth or eat something crunchy. Other than that, it really is no bother. So, will rinsing my mouth with salt water actually help? I guess I'm just a little apprehensive about it. Thanks everyone! :D

Try Ambesol, it is a little glass bottle you get in the toothpaste isle or where you find toothache medicine. My kids and I both get sores when we run fever or have too much ibuprofen. The ambesol is a liquid you can just dab the end of a q-tip and apply to the sore. It will numb it and help heal it in the process!

yes it does! but i don't do it because i hate the taste;)

it will help if there is some kind of mild infection, and will probably help with sensetivity.

yes it does

not sure. How about the dentist?

yes it will help. Also if you have any sort of mouthwash that will help it too.

YES!!

ya! hold your breath if you dont like it.

Salt water is only for when you've had a tooth pulled, it's to clean it. If you have a tooth ache, get some Orajel. But be careful, it will numb your face off if you get silly with it.

I'm pretty sure it does, dentist told me to do that

also, brush lightly but effieciently on the spot and floss!

ya it does i had one also there and salt and warm water helped a lot

yes it helps

yes it will help - also gargle with peroxide and floss with floss dipped in peroxide....... it will be better in about 4 days - i promise,

yes it will ..my mom had a a tooth pain and she rinsed it with salt water for the meanwhile until she got the real tooth paste for pain

Use listerine. You have an abscess. Listerine works very well.

I've gotten sores in my mouth before and it works pretty well. However, if you think it is infected you should get it checked out.

Yes rinsing with salt water does work.

There's actually an oral rinse sold at walmart & maybe some drug stores, can't remember the name but it's next to the other mouth washes and toothpastes, just look around on the shelf you'll see it, I wanna say blue box, I bought it when I had my wisdom teeth out, helps with cleaning sores and healing and some pain management. Just reading the box will help you figure out which one it is...dentist recommended it

Yes, it's a good idea. Maybe you got something stuck in there and eventually get pushed out. Get a new toothbrush with soft bristles.

yes,it sounds like an ulcer.

If it is on the gum, not on the tooth itself, rinsing with warm salt water should help it a lot. Two or three times a day should be good.

i think with warm water and salt try to put fresh lemon juice or a slice on it will sting but i had a cut/sore i did that a few times and it went away.hope that helps

Rinsing might dislodge something there. Try clove oil on a q-tip. It can be found in the pharmacy. It will numb it better than oragel. See a dentist soon because an absess tooth (infected tooth) can go from bad to worse quick. Also, one bad tooth can hurt your other teeth.

If it is infected you may need antibiotics.

yeah salt does work :o)

yes it does help! With an infected area, bacteria cannot survive in a salty environment, so washing with this to make a environment that is hard for bacteria to live in will most definetly help your body to get the upper hand and heal! Hope you get to feeling better!!

Oh Yeah! It really helps. what you have is a canker sore. it's like a cold sore but only inside your mouth. i know how they feel i've had them since i was a little kid. If your apprehensive about the salt water you can just use regular listerine 2-3 times a day that will also help, cause it'll keep it clean, take away the pain,(atleast for a little bit) and give you fresh breath.lol

YES!!!!!

Yes! Salt water does help because salt water helps draw off the infection. You can also rinse your mouth by mixing equal parts peroxide and water. Rinse for 30 seconds. It'll help kill infection.
