Can we only have 3 wisdom teeth or will there always be 4?!

Question: i have only got 3, in the xray there is no sight of the 4th, why we get them is a mystery to me, i have 2 up the top that came out the side of the gums, and wear grooves in my cheeks, really painfull, and the bottom one is impacted against the mollar, lucky i had the next one along removed years ago, so that dosnt create any problems

It's probably possible..some are further along in their evolution...some people never got wisdom teeth and some only have 2...

you might be able to have 3 wisdom teeth but i have 4 it could be genetics :)

Normally we have four wisdom teeth. However there are always people who do not have the exact number of any of their teeth.

wow i always thought there was only 2 wisdom teeth

You can have any combo from none at all, to one, two, three or the entire set of four. It just depends on your genetics, and how the teeth develop and come it. You can have one come in properly and one get twisted, or one/two that just sit there and don't do anything at all.

i have a friend with none, his teeth grew in all straight

uh it is rare that someone will only have three wisdom teeth. usually it is four. they also at some point all come out around the same time.

Yes...... Only 3 here..... Im 40 btw.... No more coming in...

Some people only get 2 that cause problems.

My ex had big, gorgeous, white teeth and he only had problems with his lower wisdom teeth. The uppers came in fine and made the others look better.

I had to have all four of mine cut out. My daughter had to lose her lowers, kept her uppers.

I think it depends on space in one's jaw, and genetics. So many have problems with wisdom teeth, do we really need them? Maybe we keep our other teeth longer, so we don't need them.

The best thing to do is ask your dentist to look at your xrays : )

I'm no dentist, but from my understanding and some college courses that I've taken, 4 is the norm. Personally, I had 5... yes, 5. I had the normal 4 in the back and the 5th one was almost in my lower jaw area. My dentist at the time decided that I should have all 5 taken out at the same time... let me just say that was NOT a good idea!

We should get 4 but many people do not. Most get at least 3. I had to have my 4th one cut out because it would completely come through.

But, we should technically get all four.
